I’m Marcia Marchesi, and I am the Director of Music at Nativity.
I earned my doctorate from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and my Master's degree from the Hochschule fur Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, Austria. I am the winner of a national piano competition in Brazil, as well as a medalist in several other national and regional piano competitions.
As a composer, I earned two ASCAPLUS awards, and my compositions have been broadcast on Austrian television and radio, as well as on Public Radio in the US. A recipient of numerous commissions and composition awards, my pieces have been performed and featured internationally. Selected "Colorado Commissioned Composer" in 2003, I was awarded a joint commission by the CSMTA and MTNA. In 2014, my composition "There Is No Rose" was a semi-finalist in the choral music category of The American Prize and was later premiered in Germany, while PAEAN was a finalist in the Chamber Music Category.
As a conductor, I have conducted concerts and musicals in the US and Europe. I am currently the music director here at Nativity, where I conduct the choirs and professional orchestra. Prior to this position, I directed the music program at St. Mary’s in Littleton for six years. My 2013 recording of Bruckner's Mass in C Major with the St. Mary Choir and Orchestra was selected to be added to the permanent Bruckner archives of the Austrian National Library in Vienna.
I have held teaching positions at St. Mary's College of Maryland and the University of Colorado at Boulder. My music interests go beyond concert music and include film music and musical theater. I was selected to participate in the ASCAP/NYU Buddy Baker Film Scoring Workshop and have written six musicals.
