My name is Diane Irby, and I am a Colorado native and cradle Catholic. I began teaching preschool Religious Education here at Nativity as a volunteer in 1999. I never thought one hour of volunteering per week would change my life and years later lead me into the most wonderful work. One of the biggest benefits of working in Faith Formation is what I have learned and continue to learn about my faith from our clergy, our staff, our volunteers, and our students.
I grew up in a family of seven in Northglenn, and except for my middle school years, attended Catholic schools. I am the proud mom of one daughter who attended both Nativity and Holy Family. Although my immediate family is small, I am blessed that I have a large extended close-knit family.
When I was first hired here at Nativity, as a part-time assistant to the Director of Religious Education in 2009, I taped the following Bible quote on my mirror. This quote continuously inspires me in my work:
Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves.
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his own face in a mirror.
He sees himself, then goes off and promptly forgets what he looked like. But the one who peers into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres, and is not a hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, such a one shall be blessed in what he does.
