“The altar server occupies a privileged place in the liturgical celebration ... He [or she] experiences firsthand that Jesus Christ is present and active in every liturgical act.”

-Saint John Paul II

nativity altar servers

Nativity welcomes boys and girls from the third grade and older to be altar servers.

After attending an initial training—usually held in the fall—servers are welcome to serve as often as they like by arriving at the sacristy 15 minutes before weekday or Sunday Masses.

Those who serve frequently and who progress in knowledge are also given the opportunity to progress in responsibility.  After six months,  an altar server can take a test in order to be promoted to a “full server,” and he or she can serve in many roles at benedictions, funerals, weddings, and other important liturgical celebrations.
